About the studio

Six people who would rather redraw it than defend it.

Layout Mechanics started in 2016 drawing logos for regional food producers who needed a mark that would print in one colour on a paper bag. That constraint still shapes how we work: build for the hardest surface first, and the easy ones take care of themselves.

How we think

Four working principles

  • Draw on a grid

Every mark starts on construction lines. Optical corrections come after the geometry is right, never instead of it.

  • Systems over artefacts

We deliver rules, not just files. A good system lets a junior marketer make an on-brand asset at 6pm on a Friday.

  • Decide in daylight

Three routes, written rationale, one decision-maker in the room. We do not run design by committee ballot.

  • Small on purpose

Six people. The people who pitch the work are the people who draw it. No account layer, no handoff drift.

The brief is never the problem. The problem is the twelve decisions nobody wrote down.
